President Koroma Calls for Mobilization of In-Country Resources to Sustain Fight against HIV/AIDS PDF Print E-mail

His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has said at the 7th National AIDS Commission (NAC) meeting held at state house on 23rd July 2013 that Sierra Leone has made significant progress towards universal access to HIV/AIDS services as well as meeting the MDG target on HIV/AIDS by 2015.He however noted that mobilization of domestic resources was very much crucial to sustain the fight against HIV/AIDS in the country.

“Our coverage rate on treatment for adult and children infected with HIV rose from 33% in 2010 to about 52% in 2012. Treatment among pregnant HIV positive women increased from 47% in 2011 to 96% in 2012. We have also witnessed recorded increased survival rate among people infected with the disease from 83% in 2010 to 92.6% in 2012”. President Koroma disclosed.

NAS bid farewell to the out-going UNAIDS M&E Adviser PDF Print E-mail

The National AIDS Secretariat on 1st August 2012 bid farewell to the out-going M&E Adviser Mr. Chibwe Lwamba of the United Nation AIDS. In a short ceremony held at the NAS 2 conference hall, the Director of NAS Dr. Brima Kargbo thanked Mr. Lwamba for his selfless service and support in the Nation Response in the fight against AIDS in Sierra Leone. He said that if NAS could stand tall of it achievements so far was because of one of the ‘three core principles’:  ‘One Monitoring and Evaluation Framework’ to which Mr. Lwamba has contributed significantly.

NAS Hands Over 7 Vehicles to Health Ministry PDF Print E-mail

Toyota HiluxAs a way of enhancing government’s health care delivering system in the country, the National AIDS Secretariat (NAS) with funds from the Global Fund on 18th June 2012 handed over seven Hilux vehicles to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.

These vehicles, disclosed by the Director of NAS, Dr. Brima Kargbo, were bought with fund made available by the Global Fund, a public-private partnership that gives support to the global fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. He added it marked the second such donations given to the Ministry by the Global Fund through NAS. The first batch was given a month ago.

6TH NATIONAL AIDS COMMISSION (NAC) MEETING PDF Print E-mail

The Sixth Meeting of the National AIDS Commission under the Chairmanship of H.E. Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma was held in the Conference Room, State House, Freetown on Thursday 21th June 2012

The Director of National AIDS Secretariat (NAS) welcomed Commissioners and Observers to the 6th NAC Meeting and commended the high level of commitment shown by the Chairman in convening such sessions.  He catalogued some of the achievements of NAS; amongst them was the selection of Sierra Leone to serve in the Programme Coordinating Board of UNAIDS for three years; effective 1st January 2013.   He noted the strong multi stakeholders’ partnership in maintaining the low prevalence through preventive strategy; and reassured members of the Secretariat’s continued efforts in responding to the HIV and AIDS epidemic.

THE GLOBAL FUND SUPPORTS HIV WORK WITH VEHICLES PDF Print E-mail

The global fund programme has provided 14 vehicles to strengthen the health system in Sierra Leone particularly HIV/AIDS at this very opportune time when the fight against the pandemic is scoring successes as it slowly moves towards zero new infections.

Assignment Title: Piloting of Needle and Syringe Exchange Program in Sierra Leone

Reference No. : GF/NAS/NACP/SER/04/2018

The National AIDS Secretariat received funding from Global Fund against HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) as Principal Recipient (PR) to implement “Program Continuation Request (PCR)” which commenced in January 2018 and ends 31st December 2020. In collaboration with the Country Coordination Mechanism (CCM) of the Global Fund and its Sub Recipients (SRs), NAS is scaling up a prioritized National AIDS Response focused in six High Burden Districts and Key Populations as the most affected and infected by HIV. The current grant includes investment in HIV programs focussed on key populations including Female Sex Workers (FSW), men who have sex with men (MSM), and people who inject drugs (PWID). The Secretariat requires the services of a consultant to Pilot the Implementation of Needle and Syringe Exchange Program in Sierra Leone. The Secretariat intend to use part of the proceeds from the Global Fund grant for eligible payment for the execution of this activities.
